Having won both Gold in the Kids Sunscreen category and Silver in the Body Sunscreen category at the 2020 Australian Non-Toxic Awards, this year, our SPF 50 sunscreen has been crowned a multi-award winner again.
We’ve just been announced as the Clean + Conscious 2022 Awards Gold and Editor’s Choice winner for the Best Kids Sunscreen!
Using a low-carbon container and swapping beeswax for candelilla wax, our 100mL SPF 50 sunscreen is 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan friendly, making it especially safe for children. Only lightly scented with essential oils, it’s also suitable for sensitive skin types and lightweight enough to use everyday.
Keep reading for the 4 main reasons why this sunscreen has been voted one of the best, 4 times over…
1. Non-Toxic Ingredients
We only use ingredients that are 100% reef-safe, biodegradable, locally sourced and come from natural origins.
Co-formulated with LaGaia UNEDITED and featuring high quality, mineral ingredients, our SPF 50 Sunscreen is made without any nasty toxins, nano-particles, marine pollutants or hormone disruptive chemicals – and without compromising on strength or safety.
It’s safe to use on the whole family, from kids 3 months and older to women who are pregnant or nursing. Containing one of the only TGA and FDA approved and proven UV filters, zinc oxide, it provides broad spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays from the sun, and is water resistant for up to 3 hours.
It is also infused with essential oils, organics and botanicals, including coconut oil, lavender, ylang ylang flower, patchouli leaf, safflower seed, vetiver root and geranium.
2. Ethically Made
Not only do we pride ourselves on making sunscreens that are safe for humans, we work just as hard to ensure they are safe for the planet too.
All of our products – including our SPF 50 vegan sunscreen – are made right here in Australia. To make our tubes, we have partnered with packaging manufacturer and solar power company Impact International based in the Greater Western Sydney suburb of Smithfield, NSW. They use solar energy and grow their own forest, so their tubes are almost entirely carbon neutral.
For us, this means the process of producing our sunscreen tubing (which is made out of 60%, low-carbon sugarcane resin) does not contribute to climate change.
Having our packaging made in Australia is another way to support the local economy and local jobs too.
3. Sustainable Shipping
When it comes to how we distribute our SPF 50 sunscreen and all of our other sun care products, sustainability is always at the front of our minds.
In regards to our shipping methods, we go with carbon-neutral couriers for domestic standard shipping.
We send our parcels in compostable paper mailers and all packages exclude single-use materials and single-use plastics (so no unnecessary outer boxes or sleeves).
4. Reef Responsibilities
Giving back is another important way to show we are serious about having a positive environmental impact.
For every purchase made on the People4Ocean official website, $1 will go directly towards funding reef restoration and conservation initiatives right around the world.
In each country of distribution, a small percentage of each product sold is given back to local, non-for-profit organisations focusing on reef rehabilitation and conservation.
For example, a percentage of all sales in the Seychelles is directly donated to the Nature Seychelles Reef Rescuers project. The same way, a percentage of all sales in New Zealand are donated to local projects such as Kelp forest regeneration by LiveOcean.
2022 Clean + Conscious expert panel reviews of our SPF 50 sunscreen:
“Despite being SPF 50, this reef-safe sunscreen is surprisingly lightweight and moisturising and my kids appy it and rub it in with ease. I love that it lasts for up to 3 hours and stays on strong after a couple of swims. The scent is lovely too! I love People4Ocean’s efforts to create sustainable and locally-made packaging. I also love that a variety of global and local charities are supported” – Emma Freeman
“The People4Ocean SPF 50 Vegan Sunscreen is so easy to apply – you can feel that this sunscreen must have a higher percentage of oils in it. I LOVE the smell with the addition of lavender oil! Reef friendly and biodegradable, this is a great sunscreen option. I also love that this sunscreen is 100% made in Australia, including the packaging and that it is recyclable” – Fiona Morouco
“I loved the hint of lavender smell! And I really love how long lasting the protection is in the water – it made me feel super confident with the kids at the beach. People4Ocean obviously genuinely cares about how the products that have gone before theirs have impacted the oceans. Donating to local charities committed to conserving their patch of the ocean is clever and a great way to do things!” – Veronica Milsom
